Contextual Fit
Analysis & Design
The goal of this project is to build an extension to the well-known Smith House, which Richard Meier, an architect, created in 1965. To maintain the integrity of the original design, the addition must provide evidence that the systems and patterns already present in the house were examined and taken into account during the design process.
In order to satisfy the owners' additional requirements, we were also asked to provide a meta-idea and story in addition to conceptual analogies for additions. New systems or patterns that weren't there in the original house will also result from this.
Narrative
The Smith House was recently purchased by a family full of athletes. They all are soccer players. There are a lot of spaces in the house, but they need a big family room to watch sporting events. Previously, their house lacked a place big enough to watch soccer games. They would also like an exercise room to workout. The Smith House caught the eye of the family because of its larger areas and the potential for a big family room. They prefer to spend time in the family room, having watch parties with friends for the big games. Although they like the company, they would also like some private space in the master bedroom. Using these ideas will make a home that is comfortable and convenient for the family.

Preliminary Designs
Here are three of my initial ideas that I produced after figuring out the required masses and circulation path. I chose the first design after determining which one had the greatest potential and which one went with the original circulation the best.
